An Interview with Emefa Cole

Jeweller and V&A Inaugural Curator of Jewellery

Emefa Cole is a highly successful and accomplished British-Ghanaian jewellery maker based out of the Goldsmith Centre in London. A graduate of London Metropolitan University, Emefa explores the transformative power of time to create bold and distinctive body adornment inspired by her idyllic childhood in Ghana and using traditional lost wax casting techniques. In 2020, Emefa reached new levels of cultural significance and recognition with the V&A museum when her ‘Vulcan’ ring was acquired for its permanent jewellery collection, the process of which was documented in the BBC2 series ‘Secrets of the Museum.’ This was closely followed by the Goldsmith Company acquiring a ‘Caldera’ ring for the Company Collection in 2021. Further cementing Emefa and her work as an important cultural icon within the British jewellery industry, in 2022 she joined the V&A as a Curator for Jewellery (Diaspora).
